Update: Murder Victim Was Beaten, Strangled.

A Lincoln man whose body was found on a riverbank in Seward County last June had been beaten and strangled.

Investigators are still following leads in the slaying of Hai Sinh Nguyen, whose battered body was found on a bank of the west fork of the Big Blue River near Beaver Crossing on June 25th, a day after his 34th birthday. Investigators have not said publicly when Nguyen was last seen alive, where he was killed or how long his body lay on the riverbank.

Large quantity of prescription drugs taken in burglary

On Thursday morning May 26, 2016, the Chadron Police Department was called to Petersen Drug, in Chadron, in reference to a burglary. Unknown suspect(s) gained entry to the building by cutting a large hole into the tin, of the east wall, located in the alley. A large quantity of pharmaceutical drugs were taken; valued at approximately $24,000.00 (wholesale value). Drugs such as Fentanyl, Morphine, Hydrocodone, Vicodin, OxyContin, Tramadol, Adderall and Alprazolam were taken from the pharmacy.

“These drugs have a street value of approximately $70,000.00. They are dangerous and we are very concerned about them hitting the streets. Drugs such as Vicodin, OxyContin or other stimulants such as Adderall are common prescription drugs of abuse. I am asking for the public’s help in solving this crime,” says Lt. Rick Hickstein.

The Chadron Police Department is currently following up on several leads and its investigation is ongoing. Educational Efforts to Focus on
Teen Drivers & Seat Belts

(Lincoln, Neb.)- As part of its continuing effort to reduce the number of serious injury and fatality crashes on state roadways, the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP), will begin a six-month long initiative focusing on teen drivers and seat belt usage.

Beginning in mid-January and continuing through the end of June, the agency will provide educational programs utilizing its Rollover Simulators, Seat Belt Convincers, and Driving Simulator. The educational programs are made possible thanks in part to a $24,500 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS).

According to the latest NOHS statistics, 71% of Nebraska’s teen drivers 19-years of age and younger involved in fatal crashes were not wearing seat belts.

“This effort provides our troopers an opportunity to connect with young drivers,” said Acting Superintendent, Lt. Col. Thomas Schwarten. “Through hands-on demonstrations we hope to gain voluntary compliance by raising awareness of the critical role seat belts play in saving lives.”

Troopers Escape Injury after Shots Fired at Patrol Car

(Omaha, Neb.)- Two Nebraska State Patrol troopers escaped injury and two people were taken into custody after shots were fired at their patrol car during an attempted traffic stop in Omaha.

Just after midnight on Thursday, Feb.5, a trooper attempted a traffic stop of a 2002 Hyundai Accent, for a broken taillight, near the Interstate 680/I80 split. The vehicle traveling at a slow speed failed to stop continuing northbound onto I680. The vehicle continued at a slow speed turning east onto Center Street, before turning south on 108th Street. As the vehicle turned south, a male leaned out of the passenger side window and fired shots from a shotgun striking the patrol car.

The trooper driving the patrol car took evasive action stopping the unit. The suspect vehicle continued on before being stopped by another trooper near 110th and I Streets. The female driver of the vehicle was taken into custody. The male suspect was not in the vehicle.

A perimeter was established in the area and the male suspect was located a little more than an hour later hiding in a vehicle near Prairie Hills Drive and Oak Street. He was taken into custody without incident.

The driver of the vehicle, Marissa D. McCormack, 27, Omaha was lodged in the Douglas County Corrections on charges of Accessory to felony, Flight to Avoid Arrest and Obstructing Law Enforcement .

The passenger, Daniel J. Huerta Campbell, 34, Council Bluffs, was lodged in the Douglas County Corrections on charges of Assault on a Police Officer, Use of a Firearm to Committed a Felony, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Obstructing an Officer.

The two troopers riding in the Patrol car were not injured. The Nebraska State Patrol was assisted by the Omaha Police Department. ###

Help Wanted in Locating Omaha Suspect
(Omaha, Neb.)- The Nebraska State Patrol is asking for the public’s help in locating an Omaha man wanted for Felony Forgery and Felony Flight to Avoid Arrest.

Authorities are looking for Frank V. Sadecki, 30, a white male, 6-2, 180 lbs., with brown hair and brown eyes.

Sadecki fled from a home in the Kingswood neighborhood of Millard, south of Center Street and west of 132nd as authorities served a search warrant early this afternoon, Friday, January 30. The warrant was served by the Nebraska State Patrol, assisted by the Omaha Police, and the Secret Service.
